# Update Cost of Goods without changing historical data

When your product costs change, you can update the **Cost of Goods (COGS)** in Juicy without changing the cost used for previous orders. By adding a new cost with a **start date**, Juicy keeps your historical costs intact and automatically applies the new cost from the selected date onward.

**You can manage your product costs in Juicy under:**
**Settings → Products & Tracking → Products**


Let's say the cost of a product has been **$5.00 per unit**, but starting on **August 12**, the new cost is **$4.00 per unit**. Instead of replacing the existing $5.00 cost, add a new cost entry:

* **Previous cost:** $5.00 per unit
* **New cost:** $4.00 per unit
* **Start date:** August 12

Juicy will then use:

**Before August 12 → $5.00 per unit**
**From August 12 onward → $4.00 per unit**

This means orders placed before the new cost takes effect will continue using the original $5.00 cost, while new orders will automatically use $4.00.

## How to update your cost

1. Open the product
2. Click **New entry**.
3. Enter the date when the new cost should take effect.
4. Enter the new cost per unit.
5. Save your changes.

That's it. Juicy automatically uses the correct cost based on the order date.

## If your COGS are currently synced from Shopify

If your COGS are currently synced from Shopify, you'll first need to set up your product cost directly in Juicy before you can use historical cost entries. Start by adding the product's **current/previous COGS in Juicy**, then create a new cost entry with a **start date** for the new cost.

## Good to know

* Historical cost entries only apply going forward from their start date. Past orders always use whichever cost was active at the time.
* Add as many cost entries as you need if your costs change more than once.
* Works the same way whether you have one cost entry or many. Juicy always picks the entry with the latest start date that's still before the order date
