# Show the Most Popular Payment Method First

# Rename a Payment Method

Rename a payment method to make it clearer for your customers at checkout.

## 1. Create the customization

Set the customization to **Active**.

Enter a name for your customization, for example:

> **Rename Credit Card**

Choose **Always** to apply the new name to every checkout, or select **When set conditions are met** to apply it only in specific situations.

## 2. Add the rename action

Select **Rename payment method**.

Use the following settings:

- **Match:** Contains
- **Payment method:** Credit card
- **New name:** Pay with card

> 💡 **Best practice**
>
> Use **Contains** and enter the shortest unique part of the payment method name.
>
> Avoid terms that are too broad. For example, **Credit** could also match **Store Credit**.

> ⚠️ **Important**
>
> - **Credit Card** customization requires **Shopify Plus** for stores in the **United States and Canada**. Stores in other countries can customize it on any Shopify plan.
> - Payment methods displayed with provider logos, such as **PayPal** or **Klarna**, generally cannot be renamed.
> - Customizations do not affect **express checkout buttons inside carts**.
