# Change a recurring expense

# Change a recurring expense

You can safely update a recurring expense without changing historical expenses.

**Settings → Finances → Expenses**

---

## 1. Open Recurring expenses

Go to **Settings → Finances → Expenses**.

Under Recurring expenses, locate the expense you wish to update, such as the Shipmondo pro plan, and click Edit.

---

## 2. Change the amount

Update the **Amount** to the new cost.

For example, your **Shipmondo pro plan** now costs **USD 37 per month** instead of **USD 38**.

| Field | Before | After |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Amount | USD 38 | **USD 37** |

Keep **Currency** set to **USD - US Dollar ($)** for this example.

Click **Save** to apply your changes.

---

## 3. Future expenses use the new amount

Once you save, future expenses created by this recurring expense will use the **new amount**.

Expenses that have **already been created** remain unchanged.

### Example: Three months have already been recorded

Your recurring expense has been running for three months at **USD 38 per month**. You change the amount to **USD 37** before the next expense is created.

| Expense | Amount | What happens? |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Month 1 | USD 38 | Unchanged |
| Month 2 | USD 38 | Unchanged |
| Month 3 | USD 38 | Unchanged |
| Month 4 and onwards | **USD 37** | Uses the new amount |

---

|| **Historical expenses are not changed.** Expenses already created keep their original amounts. Changing the recurring expense does not overwrite your history.

| **Only future expenses use the new amount.** The next expenses created by this recurring expense will use your updated amount.
